Turkey's renewable energy potential within the framework of geopolitical approach

As the first quarter of the 21 st century comes to an end, energy supply and energy security are among the priorities of states in international politics. In the developed and globalised world, access to energy and proper use of energy is one of the most important issues. The main scope of this thesis will be to examine the world energy outlook and Turkey's general energy policy through the energy outlook reports of states and international organisations. Turkey is located in the centre of energy geopolitics due to its location, but it is not a country that is self-sufficient in energy. Energy supply and energy security are of vital importance for Turkey, whose on external dependence on energy between 65 per cent and 70 per cent. While Turkey's dependence on energy is so high, Turkey's situation in renewable energy, whose efficiency is increasing with the developing technology, will constitute the scope of the thesis in the renewable energy outlook and the policies it implements. Within the scope of international relations, especially the energy diplomacy of Eurasia and Europe and its reflection on Turkey's energy balances will be included in the scope of this thesis. As the method to be used in the thesis, the reports containing the official energy policies of the states, the reports of international independent organisations and the annual energy reports of the giants of the energy sector will come first. studies/documents/articles of political scientists, engineers and energy experts who are experts in their fields will be used in the method of the thesis. In addition, quantitative data such as countries' access to and supply of non-renewable and renewable energy resources and resource utilisation will be examined in statistical data. The Republic of Turkey is a country that has been having difficulty in accessing energy since its foundation, Turkey does not have sufficient natural resources within its borders and this is a problematic situation for Turkey in energy geopolitics. Turkey has to deal with various countries for energy supply and Turkey's environment is troubled in terms of energy security. A strong energy diplomacy is required to solve all these problems. The original question of the thesis will be whether renewable energy can cease to be an alternative source for Turkey and become a more important potential when so many parameters must be solved in order to access energy. ix The expected result of the thesis is expected to answer the question of whether renewable energy sources can be the main energy supply for Turkey in the future, rather than being an alternative, despite the deteriorating energy geopolitics due to the problems experienced in energy supply, energy security and its environment.
