The problem of transcendence and immanence in Johannes Scottus Eriugena

The philosophy of Eriugena is the last great theoretical synthesis of early medieval philosophy, with deep traces of the Christian and Ancient Greek philosophies that preceded it. In the Metaphysics of Eriugena there is an existence centered on nothingness and creativity. This existence is completed as a dialectical process that unites two opposite movements in God, beginning with the movement of division and continuing with the movement of dissolution. While presenting this process as a whole, it reduces the transcendent God to an immanent state in all beings. Thus, the existence of a wise God who encompasses all existence in the unity of transcendence and immanence identifies with the reality of the concept of nature. Within this metaphysics of nature, the being with the highest value is specifically human. In this study, in order to understand the foundations of Eriugena's philosophy, we will first try to reveal the thought and thought environments that shaped his philosophy, then how he handled transcendent and immanent existence from a holistic perspective, how he synthesized opposing elements by bringing them together, and thus the foundations of his metaphysics that reveal the wise God and high human nature in his philosophy.
