John Rawls's understanding of individual and Michael Sandel's criticism of the unencumbered self

This study aims to deal with liberal and communitarian traditions within the frame of individual comprehensions through two significant philosophers like John Rawls and Michael Sandel. The concept of modern individual that is continuation of socio-politic, cultural and philosophical conversions represents the base element of understanding of political liberalism that Rawls founded and the core of criticism that the communitarian philosophers like Sandel direct to this understanding. Rawls who follows Kantian liberal tradition and defends the prioritization of justice against understanding of a good life, and is called as a deontological liberal by Sandel because of his predecessor self approach to his aims. In this respect, his discipline centralizes understanding of a political justice that are not based on any far-reaching discipline and has an ideal of objectivity correlatively understanding of deontological self. Sandel who defends the individual, is on the centre of Rawls's political liberalism, is void and intangible, antipathetically thinks that individuals are bound to aims and value that constitute their selves, can not abstract themselves by drawing away themselves at will. Hereunder, although, Rawls canonizes individualism, Sandel admits that the community that is a founder structure forms the inseparable part of identities. In this respect, Sandel who characterizes Rawlsian liberalism as The Procedural Republic, contrary this view, adopts an approach that is conjunction with the republican tradition.
