Gender-based problems faced by women journalists: The example of Aydin local press

In recent years, we have seen an increase in the number of women working in the press sector in Turkey. It is estimated that women who are assigned to do the housework and look after their children in terms of gender roles experience problems during their transition to work life. The aim of this study is to determine the problems experienced by women who continue their journalism profession based on flexible working hours culture, both in their work life due to their gender and the problems they experience between their home and work life. In this study, in-depth interviews were conducted with 20 female journalists who actively work in national or local press organizations in Aydın province and its districts. Each participant was asked 20 questions; they were asked to answer these questions sincerely and objectively. It was stated that the names of the participants would not be given openly and that the study would continue with codes such as K1, K2, K3. In the literature section of the study, the concept and types of feminism were explained, the position of women in the historical process was mentioned and information was given about the history of women journalists. The findings section was formed from the answers given by Aydın local press and women journalists to the questions. It has been observed that female journalists either delay their housework or fail to do it at all or experience problems such as not being able to complete their work on time. Female journalists, who have been subjected to harassment and mobbing many times in their professional lives because they are women, have stated that they will continue to do their jobs no matter what the difficulties.
