The effect of the process of staying in A women's shelter on children's anxiety level

Purpose: The aim of this study; to evaluate the effect of the process of staying in a women's shelter on the anxiety level of children. Materials and Methods: The research was carried out by quantitative research method. The research consists of three groups. The first group consisted of children staying with their mother in the women's guesthouse, the second group consisted of children who were subjected to domestic violence and the third group consisted of children who were not exposed to domestic violence. The sample of women and children who did not stay in the organization was reached by snowball model and there were 75 women and 75 children in total. Socio-demographic information forms and "State and Trait Anxiety Scale a were used for each group. The data were analyzed with SPSS 20.00 program. Findings: According to the scores obtained from the scales; The state anxiety scores of the children staying in the women's guesthouse were 44.91 and the trait anxiety scores were 32.52. The state anxiety scores of the children who have experienced violence at home were 48.17 and the trait anxiety scores were 45.86. The mean anxiety scores of the children who were not victims of violence were 50.33 and the trait anxiety scores were 44.24. Result: As a result of the research, it was found that staying in a women's guesthouse did not affect the state and trait anxiety scores of children, but witnessing and being exposed to violence affected the scores.
