Woman pop star images and social perception of women: Case studies of the U.S.A., Italy and Turkey

In this thesis, American feminist poet and theoretician Adrienne Rich's ideas concerning "female language" in On Lies, Secrets, and Silence have been studied and the projections of her concept of female language have been investigated in the three female pop singers from Turkey, Italy and the U.S.A. The desired chracteristics of the female language for Adrienne Rich, which are truthfulness, avoidance of secrets, and filling silences have been traced in the lyrics of the Turkish pop star Nil Karaibrahimgil, Italian Carmen Consoli, American P!nk and the common denominators in all these song writers have been pointed out. All these pop singers, from such diverse cultures, have shown characteristics that belong to what Rich refers to as "female language."
