Reflections in working life on economic violence against women: Example of Elazığ province

Since phenomenon of violence forming together with history of humanity is affected from many individual and social elements, it exhibits a complex structure. This complex structure becomes difficult to easily define the concept violence. In general, violence can be defined as the use of force, the bad speech or making insulting behaviors. From the past to the present time, in both the developed societies and developing societies, violence is continuing to sustain. Violence is classified under four titles being about physic, psychology emotional) sex, and economy. The study consists of economic violence that is the least known among the sorts of violence. Economic violence consists of actions such as restricting the freedoms of people to work and provide income, impeding their product shopping, seizing their incomes, and forcing them to work for providing income. Economic violence against women is defined as the cases such as managing their monetary decisions by her husband, family, or any person without desire of woman, giving or not giving pocket-money via seizing woman's money, and not taking woman's view in monetary savings of her family. In addition to these cases, that woman does not have saving authority, that her working is not permitted or even permitted for her working, that her working is restricted under the certain also take place in the concept of economic violence. In this context, in this study, the essence of phenomenon of economic violence, the sorts and causes of violence against women, the case of participation in female labor force in the world and Turkey, and the numbers belonging to women exposed to violence were given. In the study, the perception of economic violence of the male and female teachers were examined by taking the teachers serving in public and private schools under Elazığ Directorate of National Education as sample. The universe of the study consists of the male and female teachers serving in public and private schools under Elazığ Directorate of National Education. In the study, the survey was administered to 600 people consisting 300 women and 300 men. In the study, in the scope of model, 23 main hypotheses and 13 sub hypotheses were developed and tested. In order to identify whether or not there is a significant difference regarding the perceptions of economic violence, t-test and One way Anova test on the variables, and the results were interpreted.
