Paths from paternat attachment to mariatal satisfaction: The serial medator roles of self confidence and self compassion

Attachment theory proposes that childhood caregiver-child attachment may affect partner attachment in adulthood. It is also known that childhood caregiver-child attachment may have a predictive role in predicting marital satisfaction. Self-confidence and self-compassion are essential emotional requirements for women, and their deficiencies may negatively affect their well-being. Therefore, this study aims to examine the serial mediator roles of self-confidence and self-compassion in the relationship between women's paternal attachment and marital satisfaction. The study sample consisted of 425 married women who are 18 and 69 years oldu and had not lost their father before the age of 16 (Mage = 35.44; SDage = 7.58; minage = 18, maxage = 69). Demographic Information Form, Dual Adjustment Scale, Mother and Father Attachment Scale II Father Form, Women's Self-Confidence Scale and Self-Compassion Scale" were utilized in the research. In order to test the main hypotheses of the research, a Serial Multiple Mediation Variable Analysis (Model 6) was performed via the Hayes PROCESS Macro. The findings revealed that women more securely attached to their fathers received more satisfaction from their marriages through self-confidence and self-compassion. The results were discussed within the scope of the related literature, and suggestions for research and practice were presented to the researchers and practitioners in the field.
