The effect of various amounts of calcium consumption on weight loss and certain anthropometric measurements in women's diet

Abstract (EN)
Present study has been conducted to measure the effect of weight management on the calcium consumption of overweight and obese women. The study took place at the two diet consultation center in Ankara and Konya between January 2015 and May 2015 and on 75 overweight or obese women between the ages of 20 and 50. Pregnant women, people with the diagnose of type 1 or type 2 DM, the ones with an endocrine, hepatic or renal disorder or taking drugs to loose weight are excluded from this study. During the initial interview, the individuals' demographic characteristics, diagnosed diseases, dietary histories, anthropometric measurements, physical activity levels were collected. Daily intake of calcium is calculated by three days food consumption records(1 weekend and 2 weekdays). The individuals are divided into three random groups by the order of receipt which had same number of participant(n=25).Following the initial interview, a personalized weight loss dietary program include 800, 1000 or 1200 mg calcium was developed for every individual alongside provision of nutritional education. Individuals were followed biweekly during 8 weeks and anthropometric measurements were repeated. As the result of this study it's seen that there is a significant difference in body mass index , fat percent(%), waist-hip circumference in all groups(p<0.05). In comparison with other groups the reduction of hip circumference in group 3(1200 mg calcium) was statistically significant (p<0.05). In this study, determining the meaningful effect of dairy consumption on weight loss may support suggestions towards increasing the amount of products belonging to dairy group in the diet.
