Determination of the effects of wall cladding materials used in cafes on perceptual evaluations of users

Abstract (EN)
In this thesis, the goal was to determine the effects of three different wall cladding materials (wood, concrete, metal) which are commonly used in interiors on the perceptual evaluations of participants. For this purpose, cafes used by a large segment of people as various social activities and individual/collective work environments, as well as the act of eating, were chosen as research environments. Afterwards, three different wall cladding materials were modeled and participants' assessments of the physical environmental factors of these virtual spaces were evaluated using a detailed survey. Ultimately, it has been determined by the participants that cafes that used light-colored wall cladding materials were percieved in a more positive light compared to the ones that used dark-colored materials, along with that cafes that used light-colored wood wall cladding materials were evaluated to be warmer compared to the cafes that used concrete and metal wall cladding materials. In addition, it was found that participants who received design training perceived the physical environmental factors of cafes more negatively than those who did not receive design training. But no significant differences were found between cafes evaluating physical environmental factors relating to the gender of participants.
