The effects on different sowing dates and plant densities on yield and quality of Lesquerella fendleri grown under the Kahramanmaraş ecological conditions

The objective of this study was to assess effect of sowing datesand row spacing on the yield, yield component traits and quality of Lesquerella fendleri.The experiment was arranged using split plot design with sowing dates as main plotsand row spacing as sub plots with three replications. Sowing dates included 15September, 15 October, 15 November, 15 February, 15 March, and 15 April. Rowspacings involved 20x25, 30x25, and 40x25 cm.In this study, yield, yield component traits and quality parameters of Lesquerellafendleri were determined by measuring plant height, number of panicles and branches,length of flower stems, length of flower panicles, length of panicle branch, number ofcapsule, size of capsule, seed yield per plant, thousand seed weight, seed yield and oilcontent. Optimum yield was obtained in February sowing with 20x25 cm row spacing.Different sowing dates and row spacing resulted in the highest seed yield 37.3 kg/da in2002. However, different sowing dates and row spacing did not significantly affectthousand seed weight (0.47-0.62 g) and oil content (%19.3- 22.5).Key words: Lesquerella fendleri, Yield, Sowing Date, Plant Density.
