Özet (EN)
The main objective of the study is to understand the relationship between the main components of the safety culture (the existence of management support and corporate organizations, organizational and communication between employees, compliance with the rules of safe operation, activities on the establishment of a secure environment, education and feedback) and occupational injuries. In this study survey research method was used. Four public and one private hospital with quality certification in Izmir province were selected. 1060 persons working in the units that have high risk of transmission of blood and body fluids were designated as research universe. 320 people participated in the survey are selected from this universe to conduct analyzes. The survey which used to collect data included the 75 items related to safety culture, employee safety, and occupational injuries. Many steps were followed in analysis data; first the validity and reliability analyzes were conducted. Then, descriptive statistics, frequency analysis, independent sample t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), correlation, chi-square analyzes were carried out respectively. SPSS 17:00 was used in data processing.According to our data of the study, the most important factors affecting the formation of safety culture are hospital management (leadership), and communication, respectively. Effective prevention practices are determined as the least important factor among others. Also the strongest positive correlation was determined by correlation analysis between communication and the occupational accident notification system. The results of the study indicate that a positive safety culture has not been built, and efforts are insufficient in the hospitals included in this research. Especially, the managers? negative believes and insufficient efforts, their employees being under the influence of the blame culture in reporting incidents, completing the incident reports not being a common practice are all shows that the system that is necessary for safety culture is not configured yet. Keywords: Safety culture, Occupational injuries, Communication.
