Abstract (EN)

Public debt affects income distribution within the country via different mechanisms. Income distribution can be affected in different directions, depending on how the debt is used. The interest payments by public sector can also have impacts on income distribution. Public domestic borrowing decreased since 2000s. This study, first, gives information about the public debt in Turkey in 2000s. In addition, the developments related to income distribution are analyzed using income decomposition method and the related data. Later, a theoretical Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium (DSGE) model is designed, where the public sector is assumed to increase its debt-financed investment. The impact of this investment on different groups of households is analyzed and a sensitivity analysis is added. Lastly, another model assuming debt-financed spending of government is designed, second-moment analysis is compared with Turkish data and a sensitivity analysis is added.
