Examination of the professional ethics behavior levels of coaches working in public institutions

In this study, it is aimed to examine the levels of professional ethical behaviour of coaches according to variables such as age, gender, marital status, education level, sports branch, coaching duration, and coaching level. For this purpose, a relational survey model, one of the quantitative research methods, was used. The population of the study consists of coaches working in Amasya, Tokat, Samsun, Çorum, Ordu, Trabzon, Düzce, Bolu, Kastamonu, and Ankara, and the sample group includes 403 coaches. The "Coaches' Professional Ethical Behaviors Scale" was used as the data collection tool in the study. All statistical calculations were performed using the SPSS 26.0 V statistical package program. As a result of the data analysis, no statistically significant differences were found in the total scores and sub-dimension total scores of the coaching professional ethical behaviors scale according to marital status, professional seniority, and educational status. On the other hand, statistically significant differences were determined according to age, gender, branch, and coaching level. A significant positive low-level relationship was found between the coaches' age and the total score of the coaching professional ethical behaviors scale, as well as the total scores of the professionalism and responsibility sub-dimensions. It was found that women's respect subscale total scores were higher than men. Coaches in team sports had higher total scores than those coaching in individual sports. Furthermore, the scores of individuals with a 4th level coaching certificate were higher than those with a 1st level coaching certificate. It was observed that scores increased as the level increased. Based on these findings, it is recommended to organize training programs and seminars at regular intervals to raise awareness of professional ethics among coaches. The knowledge and experience of experienced coaches can be transferred to younger coaches to enhance their awareness of professional ethics.
