Abstract (EN)

The aim of this research is to determine the level of glass ceiling perceptions of civil servants working in different statuses and positions in Ardahan province and to determine the relationship between this perception level and the demographic characteristics of the participants. While this research was conducted with the quantitative research method, which is frequently used in social sciences, the survey design was used and the data from the study group were obtained through a questionnaire. 230 civil servants working in the city center of Ardahan were included in the research group and a questionnaire was applied. Feedback was obtained from 213 of the 230 questionnaires distributed during the implementation process. The "Glass Ceiling Syndrome" scale developed by Karaca (2007) in the research titled "Career Barriers in Female Managers: An Applied Research on Glass Ceiling Syndrome" was used. First of all, descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation values) were used in the analysis of the data. Afterwards, correlation analysis was applied to determine the relationship between the scale sub-dimensions. Finally, independent sample t-test analysis was applied to examine the differences in dimensions according to gender, marital status and managerial status. Analysis of variance was applied to examine the difference according to age, years of management and education level. As a result, it can be said that the level of glass ceiling syndrome perceived by civil servants working in Ardahan city center is high. However, the fact that the glass ceiling perception level of male employees is higher than that of females can be considered as another prominent result. In particular, the emergence of significant relationships between mentoring, one of the glass ceiling syndrome sub-dimensions, and the variables of age, gender, educational status and managerial position of the participants also reveals the need for mentoring in the professional development of civil servants in Ardahan province.
