The role of 'street photography' in aestheticizing public everyday life

This study aims to present the function of street photography in aestheticizing public everyday life; and in this context, it aims to examine deeply how this concept is aestheticized by evaluating public everyday life and aesthetic concepts in the perspective of street photography. In this study, qualitative research method has been applied in order to determine the thoughts of street photographers on the function of street photography in aestheticizing public everyday life and also in order to evaluate the concepts of everyday daily life and aesthetic within the perspective of street photography. The research group of the study has been determined through purposeful sampling. Those who perform street photography have been reached as criterion sampling out of purposeful sampling types. Semi-structured interview form has been used as data collection tool in the research. The interview form consists of 18 open-ended questions. In analyzing the research data, descriptive analysis method has been applied. The concepts of public sphare, everyday life and street photography, which emerged as a result of global changes and challenges, have been the research topic of this study by coming together with the concept of aesthetic, which has always remained on the agenda since the creation of humanity. The interviews that have been held with the photographers who themselves perform this art, have taken the study to the point that street photography has undertaken an important function in aestheticizing everyday daily life. The majority of human everyday life has been occupied by the areas that they use together. The subject of street photography, therefore, has been the stories that have been taking place in these areas. Images produced have helped public sphare look more aesthetic when approached with an aesthetic point of view to sphare or life practises both of which look like usual. Many famous street photography artists both from Turkey and the other countries have played key roles in aestheticizing public everyday life in a way that serves for this purpose.
