Wood is a natural, renewable and ecologic construction material with high insulation performance; however the usage of wood in decreasing, especially in Turkey, as a result of developing construction techniques and technologies. Public spaces and buildings are among the areas where wood is used as a construction material. Preferred as a local material in public spaces and buildings, wood shows high performance with advancements in manufacturing technology and correct implementation techniques. The decline in use of wood as a construction material in Turkey is due to the long duration of traditional wood processing techniques, the low performance of wood processing techniques and the increase in production costs. In the scope of this study, wood construction materials used in public space and building projects in Turkey and in the World will be compared and evaluated under sections that include but are not limited to "reasons for preferring wood", "the relation of wood with other construction materials" and "technical properties of wood". The progress of wood as a construction material will be observed utilizing the analysis conducted.
