In this research, it is aimed to compare cancer patiens and their relatives with diabetic patiens and their relatives in point of some psychological symplons. The research group consisted of 200 people, 50 of whom are cancer inpatients being treated at Giilhane Military Medical Academy in Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology Units and their list degree relatives, and 50 of whom are diabetic inpatients being treated at the same hospital in Endocrinology and Internal Units and their first degree relatives in the year of 2000 between October - December. Only one relative of each patient included in the research. Symptom Check List Revised - SCL - 90 - R, State Trait Anxiety Inventory and specific information forms which were prepared by research were applied on research group. And the data were analyzed by SPSS statistics programme. The t test is applied to see whether there is difference between the levels of somatization obsessive, compulsive, interpersonal sensitivity, depression, hostility, phobic anxiety, paranoid ideation, general symptom and the levels of State Trait Anxiety, whereas Pearson Moment Multiplication Correlation Coefficients is used to see whether there is relation between the points of State Trait Anxiety and Symptom Search List of the patients and their relatives that constituted the research group. According to research results a significance difference between State Anxiety Levels of cancer and diabetic patients was not found in the patients group. However, depression, paranoid ideation phobic anxiety, hostility and general psychological symptom and Trait Anxiety levels of cancer patients were found higher. According to sex, in both patient groups women's depression somatic complaints and general psychological symptom levels were found higher than men's. Nevertheless, it is found that sex does not play an important role on the State Anxiety Levels of both patient groups. When the patients were informed about the diagnosis; it is seen that there is not a significance difference between the psychological symptom levels of cancer patients, On the contrary, it is found that the cancer patients who were not informed about their diagnosis had more depression phobic anxiety.When it comes to patients relatives group, the levels of state anxiety, depression, paranoid ideation phobic anxiety, obsessive, compulsive and general psychological symptom of the relatives of cancer patients were found higher than those of the relatives of diabetic patients. Also, it is seen that the patients' relatives who accompanied them at the hospital showed more psychological symptom. When we look at the dual correlation between the scales it is seen that there is a positive and significance relation between State Trait Anxiety and Depression points.
