Effect of closed and open kinetic chain resistance exercise on hormonal response and muscle damage

Abstract (EN)
Purpose: The research aimed to investigate the effects of Closed and Open Kinetic Chain Exercises on hormonal response and muscle damage. Material and Method: Ten volunteer men with a mean age of 23.00 ± 2.35 participated in the study. Biometric measurements of the participants were taken at week 1. Then, the training phase was applied for 3 different kinetic chain protocols at 48 hour intervals. 1 MT at 1 week interval was determined. Then, 3 different Kinetic Chain protocols were applied in 10 days intervals. Chain combination movements were performed with 4 sets of 12 repetitions. OMNI-RES scale was applied for perceived difficulty level and VAS was applied for DOMS evaluation. CK, LDH, Testosterone, IGF-1 levels were analyzed 5 times before, immediately after, 24 hours, 48 hours and 72 hours from the blood samples. Findings: In temporal changes from the protocols; Significant differences were found in CK, LDH, Testosterone parameters in the 1st and 3rd protocols (p <0.05). No significant difference was observed in IGF-1 parameter in any protocol (p> 0.05). The inter-protocol comparisons, CK values were found to be higher in the 1 and 3 protocols compared to the 2nd protocol (p <0.05). LDH values were higher in the third protocol than the other two protocols (p <0.05). Testosterone levels were higher in Protocol 1 than the other 2 protocols (p <0.05). Conclusion: It can be said that the application of 1.protocol and 3.protocol in kinetic chain exercises leads to higher muscle damage, cytokine response and anabolic hormone activity. It is thought that, in addition to the closed kinetic chain exercises, which are quite common in the force training practice using kinetic chain exercises, the findings to be obtained after combining the two movements will guide the other studies.
