Abstract (EN)

THE USING of SOLAR ENERGY in INDOOR OLYMPIC SWIMMING POOLSand THERMO-ECONOMIC ANALYSISFatih KÖŞKERMechanical Engineering, M.S. ThesisThe energy source of people is changing parallel to population raise, fast industrialization andraise of living standarts. In the beginning, the conventional energy sources like coal andsimilar combustibles were being used. Then the reduction of potentiality of these energysources and these energy sources to be causing pollution has made the research to dense upfor the continious energy sources. Nowadays, solar energy which is one of the continiousenergy sources has a significant place.Turkey is located in a lucky area thanks to its geographical situation and have considerablesolar energy potential. Solar energy is used in many fields in Turkey, such as heating andcooling the buildings, procuring warm water, heating of greenhouses, drying of agriculturalproducts, heating the swimming pools. Countries with a high solar energy potential likeTurkey are raising the water temperature in swimming pools and extending the swimmingseason. This study explains technical and economical evaluation to show the amount of energyneeded and economic possibilities to decide the optimum collector area of flat solar collectorsin solar energy for the heating of indoor Olympic swimming pools. For this reason, heatlosses of swimming pools in Antalya, Adana, Ankara and Istanbul have been calculated andtheir optimum design conditions are fixed. Keywords: Solar energy, collector, swimming pool with Olympic standarts, economicalanalysis.JURY:1.
