Abstract (EN)

In this study, effects of cutting parameters (cutting parameters and feed rate) and coating material (AlTiN, AlCrN ve TiN) on chip morphology are investigated. AISI 316L stainless steel turning process is carried out by cutting tools that are coated by different coating materials and by using different cutting parameters under orthogonal conditions. At the end of the study, saw type chip form was obtained for all cutting parameters and coating types. The number of segments in the saw metal form per area increases in parallel with the increase in cutting speed. This increase in the number of segments per area causes contraction in the spacing between segments (pitch) and accordingly contraction of chip form (Hmax, Hmin, pitch). Besides, as increasing feed value increases chip cross section, deformed chip thickness increases in parallel with increasing feed value. Segment number per area decreased in parallel with the increase in feed value, which caused expansion in chip form. Cutting parameters affect the width of shear band more than coating type. Shear band width decreases with increasing cutting speed. Increase in feed value causes some increase in shear band width.
