A linguistic study on Karaçay-Malkar proverbs

This study aims to examine proverbs which belong to Karachay-Malkar Turkish in terms of phonetics, morphology and vocabulary. The examination part of the thesis consists of three main parts. In the first part of the thesis the sound features of the language, the usage of vowels and consonants and edge effects are emphasized through this linguistic material with the phonetic analysis of the words in Karachay Malkar proverbs. Also, these data were evaluated by comparing with the written languages which belong to Old Turkish period. In the second part, the remarkable grammatical elements in Karachay-Malkar proverbs are discussed; the morphological structures of the words in the proverbs are analyzed. In this context, the root and suffix structures of the words and the morphological elements frequently used in proverbs are examined. In the third part, the grammatical category and thematic status of the words are handled by dealing with the vocabulary of Karachay Malkar proverbs. Afterwards, a comprehensive dictionary section is included in order to provide a better understanding of the meaning and grammatical use of the vocabulary in the proverbs of the study.
