Investigation of drug nonadherences, its reasons of patients who had liver transplantation and their expectations from nurses

Aim: It is investigate drug nonadherences, its reasons of patients who had liver transplantation and their expectations from nurses.Method: Research is qualitative study. Sampling criteria method was used. The sample of research consists of 21 patients who had liver transplantation with drug nonadherence. Data was collected with method of ?in depth interview? by using ? semi-structured interview form?. It was interviewed with each patient once. All interviews were recorded with audio recorder by getting verbal and writing permission of patients. Data was assessed with ?descriptive analysis?.Results: Three main themes and sub-themes have been determined concerning the expectations had from nurses and drug nonadherences, its reasons of the patients who had liver transplantation. These main themes; drug nonadherences, reasons of drug nonadherences and expectations from nurses.Conclusion and Suggestions: According to conclusions obtained from this research; it was determined drug nonadherences such as missing a dose, delaying a dose, taking an incorrect drug in patients who had liver transplantation. The patients who had liver transplantation have stated regarding their drug nonadherence reasons; forgetfulness, life style, health care system, lack of knowledge, multiple medication usage and health belief; regarding their expectations from nurses; financial consulting, education, relation and drug applications. According to these statements, the nurses are suggested to give to patients these informations associated with treatment process, drug dose, time, effect?etc., as verbal and writen and patients are suggested to repeat these informations. It is also suggested to repeat with definite intervals of education when patients were discharged from a hospital.Keyword: Liver transplantation, drug nonadherence, nursing, qualitative study
