Abstract (EN)

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), characterized by steatosis in more than 5% of hepatocytes, is the most common chronic liver disease worldwide. Dietary forms rich in fructose can very quickly lead to almost all the main diseases of metabolic syndrome. For this purpose, a total of 150 individuals, 50 individuals with NAFLD, 50 individuals with hepatitis and 50 individuals without any disease, aged 18-65, who applied to Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty Hospital, were included. The aim of the study was to determine the fructose consumption of individuals with fatty liver and to reveal the relationship between the amount of fructose and the degree of hepatosteatosis. It is aimed to reveal its relationship with the degree of In the study, a 3-day food consumption record, fructose consumption frequency, SARC-F questionnaire and anthropometric measurements were taken and evaluated. Fructose consumption of individuals with NAFLD was determined as 22±10.4 grams. Fructose consumption of individuals with NAFLD was found to be higher than individuals with hepatitis and individuals without chronic diseases. (p<0.001). It was determined that the fructose consumption amount of individuals with NAFLD were 23.1±11.3; 21.7±11; 21.8±9.2 grams, depending on their degree of hepatosteatosis (grade1, grade 2, grade 3) (p<0.001). When the blood parameters of individuals with NAFLD are examined according to their degree of hepatosteatosis (grade 1, grade 2, grade 3), there is a statistically significant difference between the grades in terms of glucose, AST, ALT, GGT, uric acid, triglyceride (p<0.001) and this difference is in all parameters. It is associated with higher values for grade 2 and grade 3. As a result, fructose can lead to various metabolic complications due to excessive consumption in individuals with fatty liver. At this point, the source from which fructose is taken is important in terms of whether it is natural or artificial and in terms of portion size.
