In this study the effect of liming on the yield of oats, soil reaction and biological activity in Brown-Forest soils, Reddish Yellow Podzolic and Gray-Brown podzolic soils that are widespread great soil groups in the Black Sea region was investigated. The soil samples were incubated after applying lime in three different dosos. The lime requirement of soil samples was determined and after the soils have reached the equilibrium with respect to pH, the samples were analysed for biological activity and for available Fe, Kn, Zn, Cu. Lime application has produced a remarkable effect on the yield of oats. After a certain time of growth, oats plants were harvested and dry mater weights were found and also the effect of different lime applications on I, P, K, Ca, Kg, Fe, Kn, Zn, Cu contents of the plant samples was determined. After harvesting the plant, the change in biological activity of soil was also established. Soil respiration (COs production), DHG- activity. from endo-enzyme, saccarase, B-glucosidase, urease and neuter phosphatase activities from ecto-enzymes as well as microorganism numbers (fungus, bacteria and actinomycetes) were used as criteria for a measure of biological activity The results of this study can summarized as follows: 1-Vith increasing doses in lime application, the soil reaction become higher (from 3.9 to 7.5). 2-Vith increasing soil pH, in general, the numbers of fungi decreased, the numbers of actinomycetes were increased slightly and the numbers of bacteria increased.-68- 3-The effect of lime application on some ecto enzymes activity changed with respect to soil type and the kind of enzyme. In general, with increasing lime, saccarase activity decreased, urease activity increased. The activity of B-glucosidase neuter phofhatase changed variably and the interpretation is difficult. 4-Vith application of lime, in Brown-Forest soils DHG-activity increased by 800 %. In Gray-Brown Podzolic soils DHG-activity was found to be very slight. In Reddi sh-Yel low Podzolic soils, DHG-activity was noted before and after lime application. 5-In three great soil groups soil respiration (CCb production) increased by 400 % with an increase of lime application. 6-By increasing the lime doses, a decrease was observed in the available Fe, Xn, Zn, Cu in soils. 7-In Brown-Forest and Reddish-Yellow Podzolic soils, with lime application a definite yield increase of oats plants was observed but in Gray-Brown Podzolic soils no important change was recorded. The study was executed as pot experiment in laborotory conditions. Fields experiments are expected to be useful in the Black Sea region by using the data obtained in this study.
