Cult of Dionysos in the Blacksea

The existence of the cult of Dionysus in the Black Sea Region in Antiquity has been the subject of the study. A literature review was made with reference to ancient sources. Due to the unfavorable geographical conditions of the region and the urbanization in the modern period, the ancient living spaces that could exist have disappeared, which limited the conduct of ancient studies in the region. Researches about the region are trying to be placed on more solid foundations thanks to literary and numismatic finds. In addition to the literary and numismatic works, the existence of the Dionysos worship in the region has been proven as a result of the excavations carried out in Ordu Kurul Castle. The study was not limited to the Eastern Black Sea Region, but also provided a comprehensive assessment by considering the Northern and Western Black Sea Regions.
