Özet (EN)
The most-frequently observed ones among brain tumors are the glial tumors. Glial tumors were classified and reported according to their histomorphological properties when 2007 WHO Classification was formed. With the new classification made in 2016, it was emphasized that the genetic properties of these tumors should also be investigated as well as their histological properties; and in classification and definitions made by considering these properties, important developments were observed in patients in terms of prognosis. Glial tumors being the most-frequently observed ones and a new classification made us to re-investigate the glial tumors in our hospital in a retrospective manner. We collected the improvement brought by 2016 WHO Classification for each glial tumor group, and we regrouped all the glial tumors in the light of the new classification, and included them in the ''Not Otherwise Specified'' (NOS) group as the cases in which molecular studies were not assessed. By doing so, we wanted to create a database for future studies. Our study was conducted in 2005-2016 at Karadeniz Teknik University, Faculty of Medicine Hospital, Pathology Department and included the glial tumor cases. All the cases were investigated retrospectively in our study and the demographical data such as gender, age, location, histological sub-type, and histological grade were recorded. According to these data, a total of 395 glial tumor cases were detected. The most frequently observed types among all the histological sub-types were the glioblastoma with 235 cases. The male dominance attracted attention in our study with a rate of 56,5%. The mean age in the tumor was 48,21; and the median age was 50. The most-frequently site was the frontal lobe. The Histological Grade IV was the most frequent one among all the glial tumors. As a conclusion, our results were found to be consistent with the demographical data in the statistical analyses. It has been considered that knowing the improvement brought by the 2016 WHO Classification will create a basis for future studies; and if the data were included in the archives, it would facilitate future molecular studies that will be conducted to define the types.
