Cemal Berber's contribution to the popularization of the kemençeinstrument in the music culture of the black sea region

In the context of popüler culture, music has a feature that satisfies people especially emotionally. Today, different age groups are differentiated according to the types of music they listen to. While middle age groups listen to traditional and popüler music, young people prefer more lively Turkish and foreign spoken music. Black Sea region music has a rhythm and content that is popüler among middle age groups and young people. Kemençe, a traditional instrument especially in Black Sea region music, has a feature that conveys the emotion of the region. Although the origin date of the Black Sea kemençe is too old to be determined, it was not used effectively in Turkey until 2000 and the music made with the Black Sea kemençe did not go beyond certain patterns. The kemençe was generally performed on double strings with the trill ornament; in other words, the finger was struck rapidly on the string. Cemal Berber's 'vibration technique', i.e. moving the finger up and down rapidly on a note, brought a new form of performance to the Black Sea kemençe. This vibration technique contributed to the increase in the popülerity of music performed with the Black Sea kemençe. In this study, in order to understand Cemal Berber's contribution to the Black Sea kemençe, the playing styles with the kemençe in an average of 100 years have been investigated. The effect of Cemal Berber's kemençe playing style on the popülerity of the Black Sea kemençe on the resting and popülerisation of this music genre was investigated.It was understood that Cemal Berber did not receive academic music education in his life, but he had a tremendous ear, observation and comprehension ability.His creativity in introducing a different technique played an important role in his success in music.In addition to the different techniques he used in performing his music, he was also able to successfully transfer his feelings and emotions to his music.Thus, he attracted the attention of different groups of musicians, worked with them and reached an environment where he could introduce his art to the whole of Turkey.
