An Investigation on clonal selection of grapevine cv. Karaerik

This study was carried out on Karaerik grape at Üzümlü district, Bayırbağ county and Pişkidağ village of Erzincan between 1999 and 2001. Clones high in yield and quality, but low in berry cracking rate were selected as a first step of clonal selection. In this study, weighted ranged method was used. Cluster weight, berry weight, bearing rate (cluster number per shoot), maturity index (TSS/Acid), berry cracking rate, cluster density, berry color and size homogeneity of cluster were evaluated in weighted ranged method. In addition to these characteristics, berry number per cluster, cluster size, berry size, berry width/length, seed number per berry, total soluble solid, tartaric acid and reducing sugar content of must and some leaf characteristics were also determined to describe the clones. Significant variations were observed on these characteristics in Karaerik population. According to the results of three years, clonal variations were 73.2% for berry cracking rate, 33.6% for cluster weight, 23.0% for maturity index, 20.9% for bearing rate and 19.2% for berry weight. 22 clones (24 Ü-KE 83, 24 Ü-KE 213, 24 Ü-KE 306, 24 Ü-KE 317, 24 Ü-KE 325, 24 P-KE 407, 24 P-KE 410, 24 P-KE 425, 24 P-KE 432, 24 Ü-KE 451, 24 Ü- KE 460, 24 Ü-KE 477, 24 Ü-KE 489, 24 Ü-KE 490, 24 Ü-KE 500, 24 P-KE 521, 24 Ü-KE 971, 24 P-KE 1585, 24 P-KE 1590, 24 P-KE 1823, 24 P-KE 1833 ve 24 P-KE 1987) were selected among 200 clone candidates. Average of cluster weight, berry weight, bearing rate and maturity index of selected clones were higher, but average of berry cracking rate was lower than the average of Karaerik population.
