Abstract (EN)

Information has become an important key term for ?success? in today?s world that is gradually getting to be a global village. The Information age in which we live today, acquiring and maintaining information gained a significant importance in the name of having a competitive advantage through today?s business world. In this context, information technologies and information systems, which are constituted to manage information and use it for organizational objectives, obtained widespread usage. Executive Information Systems (EIS) which are useful for executive decision support are the most recent computer based information systems. In spite of providing a great aid for decision support process, EIS is a high-risk information system in terms of its feasibility and cost. In this thesis, factors having influence upon the success of EIS are identified and the required aspects for a successful EIS are stated. At the end of this study, the development process of information sector in Turkey is considered and necessary options that are critical for the success of the sector are summarized. In addition, a survey which examines the effects of information technologies and information systems regarding efficiency and effectiveness is included in this study.
