Importance of business intelligence in decision making : A case study in textile sector

Decision making is a ?must? for human being. There is always a choice mean a decision in every moment. If we think organizations as living mechanisms, we can easily say that everyday, thousands of decisions are made in organizations. These can be strategic, tactical or operational decisions. Whatever their types, effects of decisions are important for organizations. They are impressive and they can sometimes cause evolutions. Positive effects are exactly related with making ?right decisions?. Right decision means the decision which brings benefits to the organization, makes the organization achieve its goals and solves the problems.The most important input in decision making is information. Having correct and complete information is a success key for decision maker. Collecting data from internal and external sources, storing and analyzing it, preparing reports according to analysis, making predictions for future and implementing all these functions with a common infrastructure through organization can only be possible by using Business Intelligence. Business Intelligence integrates all functions of an organization and provides benefits for all its employees. It brings competitive advantages to organizations by making right decisions at right time. In this study, decision making process and techniques are searched, importance of information technologies in decision making is highlighted, business intelligence as the latest and the most effective information technology for decision making is analyzed. Hugo Boss Izmir is investigated as a case study because it is one of the pioneer users of business intelligence in Turkey.
