Mathematical modelling for traffic characterization of highway section

Abstract (EN)

Republic of Türkiye General Directorate of Highways (GDH) most commonly uses three different types of automatic vehicle counting and classification systems (AVCCS) and also it makes traffic measurements on pre-determined locations of highway sections as regularly as it is able to do. Some information such as direction, axle weights, vehicle speed, measurement date and passing time of each vehicles which belongs to 12 different pre-determined types of vehicles in the vehicle counting system, has been measured, compiled and recorded by the means of most widely used automatic vehicle counting and classification system (AVCCS) that is also called as Metrocount (MC).In this thesis study, the compiled data measured between the years 2003 ? 2008 which belongs to GDH 16th Division that takes in Sivas Province and neighbour cities has been used. By arranging the data according to the recording time, the main database has been built by separating and then deriving the traffic data as annual, seasonal, monthly, weekly, daily, hourly, weekdays and weekends for each year.By the help of this database, the general traffic characteristics of region has been tried to have determined by getting average daily traffic on annual, seasonal and monthly basis which belongs to sections and general of division by analyzing the change, progress and relationship between different periods of time and annual-seasonal, annual-monthly and seasonal-monthly relationships.In addition to all these, by examining the distrubition of available daily traffic, distinctive hour time interval measurements have been tried to have determined which can be used in getting daily traffic values and programming constrained trafic measurements.
