The relationship between career stress and environmental uncertainty: A research on insurance and social security students

Stress, which is known as the disease of the modern world, is one of the most important problems of our day and its area of influence and its negative features on people are increasing day by day. Stress is quite common nowadays. Stress has physical and emotional effects on people and also creates negative and positive feelings. It is possible to say the same things about the situations where uncertainty is experienced. Factos experienced in career choice and afterwards cause career stress. It is thought that individuals who avoid uncertainty are more likely to experience career stress. It is thought that career stress is intense during the university period, which is one of the turning points of life. Especially students who do not like risk and avoid uncertainty feel more about career stress. Based on this, the effect of avoiding uncertainty on career stress has been examined. Within the scope of the study, the importance of the effects of career stress emerging in line with the consequences of avoiding uncertainty was emphasized. In addition, it was examined whether uncertainty avoidance and career stress differ according to demographic characteristics or not. In the study in which quantitative research method was used, the students of Düzce University Insurance and Social Security Department were sampled with convenience sampling. Primary data were collected using the questionnaire technique. The questionnaires are 5-degree Likert type scales. In this scale, there are 20 statements to measure career stress and 16 statements to measure uncertainty avoidance tendency. The data were analyzed using the SPSS program. As a result of the research, considering the general tendencies of the students in the sample towards variables, career stress is not very high, it is moderate, the variable with the highest average among the dimensions that constitute career stress was the pressure of not finding a job, while the variable with the lowest average was external conflict. Uncertainty avoidance tendencies remained slightly above the middle. In terms of demographic characteristics, the tendency to avoid career stress and uncertainty does not differ.The tendency to avoid uncertainty affects career stress.
