Inquiry into the mixed-use design from the perspective of social and cultural factors

The purpose of this study is to investigate social and cultural effects of the mixed-use areas and structures which are realized in the world where our ever-increasing urbanization takes place and effects on the environment, and where there should be most efficient use of the designed structures. Before examining these progresses over selected examples, information about the history, emergence and development of mixed function design are rendered. The examples selected in the study are chosen on the basis of the general area and the nature of mixed-use structures over Turkey and the world, and attention is paid also to the fact that the samples are realized at a centralized location where the effects can be best analysed. In the final analysis the historical background and the development of cases are mainly interpreted from the perspective of social and cultural values and needs and the findings are revealed.
