Folk Literature is one of the important and strong branches of Turkish Literature. The tradition of Minstrel Literature constitutes the most authentic genre of this branch in terms of its features and educative perception. Eastern Anatolian Region is the region in which this literature has been kept alive and protected for ages. When considered from this point of view, minstrel literature of the city of Kars appears as a subject which needs to be reviewed with regards to its traditions and educative perception.Minstrel Cemal Hodja of Kagizman, is one of the most important envoys of 19th century Minstrel Literature. The reason which makes him this important is; his ability to hand down the legacy which he got from his predecessors to the next generation, to mirror the way of living of Turkish society in 19th century, to be an important link in the chain of yesterday, today and tomorrow and his ability to keep the values of language and culture alive.The aim of this study is to ambidextrously expose the literature perception of Minstrel Cemal Hodja of Kagizman. The subjects of Cemal Hodja?s sense of art, the topics he chose in his poetry, technical features, factors of the ideas, the traditions of minstrel literature and education of the folk, have been examined in this study. The results obtained in the study assert the importance of benefiting from Minstrel Cemal Hodja of Kagizman and minstrel literature in Primary School Turkish classes.
