Abstract (EN)
The manuscript decoration in particular, gained importance following the acceptance of Islam by the Turks. Turks brought the art of decoration, which they first started to make in Central Asia to ornament various objects and surfaces, to Anatolia. In Anatolia, they preserved and developed the arts of the book, which they developed during the Period of Turkish Seljuks and Principalities reaching the highest level on manuscripts, especially in the Ottoman period. It can be observed that the arts of the book, which showed a parallel development with the political and economic power of the Ottoman Empire, continued under the influence of previous periods. The arts of the book with very good examples in libraries in big cities such as Istanbul, Bursa, Edirne, and Konya that were the capitals of both Seljuk and Ottoman are especially observed in the book covers and pages of the Quran manuscripts. The works produced in the rich culture and art environment of the second half of the 15th century and the 16th century, which was the strongest period of the Ottoman Empire, enabled it to emerge as the classical style of the century. Especially in this period when the arts of the book were at their peak, the most stunning works were produced. Furthermore, it is obvious that the artists summoned from Tabriz, Shiraz and Herat influenced the Ottoman art by developing their artworks in Ottoman Courts. The art of ornamentation and bookbinding has an important place in the decoration of books, especially during the Ottoman period. The bookbinding and ornaments of classical period manuscripts are especially very prominent in terms of showing the point our decoration has reached. This study aimed to determine the style and period characteristics by examining some parts of the Qur'an in Kastamonu, Corum Hasan Pasha and Suleymaniye Manuscript libraries, which are considered to belong to the classical period in terms of bookbinding and ornamentation characteristics. In the first chapter of the study, which consists of two chapters; Under the main title of the arts of the book, within the historical development of calligraphy, illumination and bookbinding arts, the Ottoman period is emphasized. Besides, the importance of the Mushaf inscription and ornamentation during the Ottoman period has been explained. In this chapter, since there is no practice of miniature and marbling art, which are among our other arts of the book, these arts are not included. In the second chapter, in addition to the general characteristics of the manuscripts that form the basis of the thesis study, the catalog section was created by explaining the ornamentation and bookbinding characteristics of the manuscripts together with the drawings made exactly on the photographs.
