The gravestones of Ferhat Paşa Mosque in Kastamonu City

İn our master thesis study, named ? Kastamonu Şehri Ferhat Paşa Camisi Haziresinde Yer Alan Mezar Taşları? the gravestones were analysed. İn the tomb that we have analysed, 106 gravestones have been found. When we seperate the numbers of stones in the tomb as head and foot stone, when we make the typology, 197 gravestones have arisen 49 of these are male head stones and 37 of these are female stones and 61 of them are foot stones 17 of these 197 grave stones are newly built head stones, also 27 of these were newly built foot stones and 6 of them have not been identified . By considering this situation in order to make more healthy research, we have grouped the grave stones in to 3 groups as female head stones, male head stones and foot stones. The grave stones in the tomb mostly belong to the 19th century. The grave stones whose the typology has been done, also have been made the typology according to the form characteristics. The male grave stones are grouped in to 4 according to form types. İn itself, it is grouped in to 2 according to the epigraph. We deemed more suitable to mention the head sections on male head a stoneds in another heading. According to typology that has been made of five different headings have been observed. Six kavuk, fourteen sarık, eighteen fes, one long cylindiric heading and two corollas, were used as heading on male headings. When the typology of female grave stones were made, differently from the male grave stones there is a differentiation based on headings. When look at the foot stones, we face with 3 typed seperarted. 351 When we analyse these grave stones, most of the decorations are on foot stones. Plantal, geometric and object drawn decorations are seen. İn 11 examples rose, in 6 examples tulip, in 7 examples mine, in 15 examples wild flower, in 4 examples bud, in 16 examples conuoluted branch, in 10 examples acantus leaves, in 3 examples rose branch, in 1 examples hashish, in 10 examples abstract leaves, in 2 examples star flower and in one example palmet and rumi motive were used as plantal decoration. As a geometrical decoration in 9 examples baklava motives, in twelve examples rectangles, square and circle motive, in one example çarkıfelek and in one example zigzag motive was used. As a motive with objects in four examples vase in 7 examples moon and star motive and in twenty-eight examples radial rod motives were used. Also, in one example small column was used as an architectural decoration. From 197 total grave stones, thirteen of them were made of marbles and the others were from stone. Out of these materials in three examples the usage of mosaic concrete can be analysed. On grave stones the oyma technique was used. İn the Ferhat Paşa Camisi Haziresi, we face with four different types of writing as talik, sülüs, celi sülüs and Turkish. İn ten examples sülüs, in four examples celi sülüs, in three examples Turkish and out of these, in sixty examples the epigraph with talik hat were used. As a result, on the grave stones that are in Kastamonu Şehri Ferhat Paşa Camisi Haziresi, we see more localised version from the workmanship and style that can be seen in İstanbul. We can evalmate these grave stones as more simple workmanship Works. The decoration compositions and alterations with western effect from eighteenth century on wards, though not as much as in İstanbul, also shows itself in Kastamonu.
