Abstract (EN)

Due to the increasing trend of waste generation and sanitary landfills worldwide, assumption of landfill gas (LFG) which is generated in these landfills is coming to prominence by regarding green house effects of LFG and LFG to energy projects. When under estimations of LFG cause failure of projects, over estimations causes unnecessary invesments which effects directly to the project budget. For prediction of LFG which is generated in lanfills some common models are in use. These models give consistent result for convential sanitary landfills. But, if landfill consists some site specific characteristic such as different storage methods and waste streams, results fall short of real situation.Istanbul has two sanitary landfills in European and Asian sites. Odayeri sanitary landfill which is the biggest sanitary landfill in Europe has been operated since 1995 and 30 million tons of waste has been landfilled so far. Kömürcüoda sanitary landfill site has been operated since 1995 in Asian site and 15 millons tons of waste has been landfilled so far. LFG to energy project has been installed in 2009 for both of the sites. After the over assumptions of models which was used before the project was noticed, it was needed to alternative model which consist all site specific characteristics of both landfill sites. New model is based on Odayeri sanitary landfill datas and it is tested with Kömürcüoda sanitary landfill actual datas. It is aimed that new model will be useful both conventional sanitary landfills and specific landfills such as Odayeri and Kömürcüoda.
