Abstract (EN)
Kâtip Çelebi, who was born in Istanbul in 1609 and wrote many works in his very short life, is a very important person who left his mark to the 17th century. Kâtip Çelebi, who started to work with his father at the age of fourteen and spent about ten years on a campaign, is one of the rare Ottoman writers who wrote many works in different fields such as history, biography, astronomy, philosophy and mathematics. Kâtip Çelebi, who became interested in geography and maps with the Crete Campaign, started to write Cihânnümâ twice, which is an exceptional work in this field, but did not complete it. This work of the author was completed seventy-five years later by İbrahim Müteferrika with some additions and was printed in the printing house. This work opened a new era in the science of geography and served as an important source for subsequent studies. Aiming to introduce the world in Cihânnümâ, Kâtip Çelebi thought to write about the cities of Eastern Anatolia in this context, but his life was only enough to write the Province of Van. The cities of Erzurum and Diyarbekir were written by İbrahim Müteferrika, remaining faithful to the style in the work. The pravinces of Van, Erzurum and Diyarbekir, which ere located in the east of Anatolia in the 17th century, and the characteristich of their admin is trative units such as sanjak, district and town ship are mentioned in the Cihânnümâ. In addition to administrative and geographical features, important information is given about cultural features such as religion, art and tradition, and economic features such as trade, money, livestock, agriculture and mining. In addition, geographical elements such as mountains, lakes and rivers in these places were also introduced. Besides, Cihânnümâ, which contains important information about the roads of these provinces, the routes of these roads and their history, is an important source in terms of historical geography. This study is an important study in terms of revealing the changes from past to present in Diyarbekir, Erzurum and Van and their associated settlements and being a resource for those who will work on these places.
