Keywords: Junction design, junction types, traffic signalization, traffic simulation, queue length In the modern era, one of the most critical problems of big cities is traffic congestion. Due to this problem directly negatively affects the life of society, is one of the most important topics of transportation engineering. Traffic jams are mostly seen in urban intersections. Therefore, finding the most effective solutions in the design of intersections is very significant for the society. With the help of developing computer technologies, traffic simulation programs have been produced in which traffic results can be observed without being constructed at the intersections. In this study, the effect of using traffic simulation software in junction design was investigated. Serdivan Sapak Mosque Intersection and D-100 Dörtyol Sanayi Intersection were examined with traditional methods and vehicle counts were made and traffic volume on the routes was revealed. These intersection were modeled using Vissim microscopic traffic simulation software and the traffic parameters were entered into the software. Current queue lengths are calculated at two intersections. Two different traffic volumes were selected in the scenario studies for Serdivan Sapak Mosque Junction and queue lengths were determined in these cases. As an alternative suggestion, interchange is preferred and designed in software. For the same traffic volume values, the queue lengths in the interchange design were calculated and compared with the current situation. For the D-100 Dörtyol Sanayi Junction, the current traffic volume values were kept constant and the queue length values were calculated and compared for four different alternatives in signaling phase values. It was observed that the results of the vissim analyses were very close to the real situation and it was found that the use of traffic simulation techniques by designers in junction designs was very efficient.
