Five different aggregate types; gabbro, basalt, quarsite, limestone and sandstone were used to produce high strength concretecontaining silica fume. Water-binder ratio was 0,35. Amount of hyperplasticizer of4 % were replaced with binder content by mass. Gabbro concrete showed the highestcompressive and flexural tensile strength and low abrasion. Sandstone concreteshowed the lowest compressive and flexural tensile strength and abrasion resistance. When high abrasion resistant aggregate, abrasion resistant concrete was produced.Current investigation have been shown how aggregate strength on thecompressive and flexural tensile strength of concrete, and how transition zonestrength limits the compressive strength of concrete, and how aggregate typesinfluences abrasion resistance of concrete. Investigation results have been also shownthat with an appropriate mixture design full strength potential of aggregate can beutilized in concrete.Key words: Aggregate types, concrete, strengt, abrasion.
