The impact of resource threat, mood, the norm of social responsibility and social justice on charitable behaviour

Charitable behavior, which is one of the positive social behaviors, is an important issue in the Social Psychology literature. When the previous studies are examined, although there are researches on the relationship between charitable behaviors and mood and social norms, the effect of the source threat on charitable behaviors is unknown. In the present study, three experimental studies were conducted to examine the direct effect of resource threat, mood and social norms on charitable behaviors and the role of variables in this effect. In the first experiment of the study, the effect of mood and resource threat on doing charitable behaviors was examined, and it was seen that those who did not experience resource threat had more charitable behaviors, and in this effect, well-being and cognitive flexibility were the mediators and the moderator role of people's perceptions of financial status. In addition, it was determined that the participants with positive moods exhibited more charitable behaviors and that the intolerance of uncertainty had a moderator role in this effect. In the second experiment, the effects of the social justice norm on charitable behavior were examined, and it was observed that charitable behaviors increased when there was a fair distribution, and that expectation and feeling calm played a mediating role in this effect. It has been determined that the importance that people attach to money has a moderator role in the relationship between resource threat and charitable behavior. In the third experiment, the effects of the social responsibility norm on charitable behavior were examined, and it was found that those who did not experience a source threat had more charitable behavior and that this effect was the mediator of positive emotions of individuals due to their charitable behavior. In addition, it was found that charitable behaviors increased when social responsibility was felt, and in this effect, individuals' perceptions of their own financial status had a moderator role. All the results obtained from the studies are discussed within the framework of the relevant literature. The findings of the study were discussed in line with the relevant literature and research findings. The results of the study shed light on the gap in the literature regarding the effect of resource threat, mood and social norms on chariable behaviors.
