A review on Kazakh animal tales

This study has been designed to introduce fifty animal tales from the Republic of Kazakh into Turkish language and to determine episode sequences as regards characters of the stories, motif structures and common themes in these animal tales. The characters in the stories have been analyzed according to character index of Eberhard-Boratav and Aarne-Thompson and the motifs of the animal tales have been determined according to Stith Thompson's Motif Index of Folk Literature. The first four parts of the thesis are concerned with stories in general, the method used in the study, animal tales, the studies carried out about the research topic, Kazakh Turks and the literature of Kazakh Turks. The episode sequences and the motif structures have been analyzed according to the characters of the stories and the heroes, the settings, the furniture and the formal structures of the stories have been analyzed under the heading of the common themes of the stories. In the last part of the thesis, the transcripts of the animal tales of Kazakh Turks have been made and these texts have been translated into Turkish.
