Soil compaction in sunflower cultivation of Kazova

Abstract (EN)

In this study, it was aimed to determine whether the surface compaction in the sunflower cultivated areas in Kazova during the Project studies of TUBITAK TOVAG 112O039 was the result of the management applied in sunflower production. For this purpose, at sunflower planted forty-eight lands (Group 1) in 2012 and at sunflower planted twenty-lands in 2013 (Group 2), soil moisture content, field capacity, wilting point, total porosity, available water, organic matter content, aggregate stability, bulk densityt and penetration resistance were compared. In addition, management practices in sunflower cultivation were determined in consultation with producers. Gravimetric moisture content values were generally lower in 2013. Field capacity value is lower in the first sampling year at both depths in the fields with and without sunflower cultivation. In the first year, the total pore volume values of the fields in the sunflower cultivated area ranged from 41.54% to 46.03% and in the second year from 40.32% to 44.96% in the fields with sunflower cultivation. The average organic matter content of the soils ranged from 1.41% to 1.86% and generally higher in the second year. In the two years when the sunflower was planted in two groups, the aggregate values of the aggregate were higher than the values of sunflower sown in the measurement years. Considering the soil texture of the sampling points, the bulk density should be less than 1.40 g/cm3. However, the bulk density values range from 1.43 g/cm3 to 1.6 g/cm3. The highest penetration resistance values obtained at the sampling points (4.04 MPa and 4.21 MPa) indicate that the boundary values are exceeded in some areas. All sunflower farming enterprises use eared plows and use 2 or 3 disc harrows to shred sunflower stalks. In order to prevent soil compaction in the study area, suitable soil treatment systems should be adapted to the conditions taking into account climate, soil characteristics and crop rotation for sustainable agricultural production.
