Determination of the natural radioactivity in Uluova zone of Keban dam lake

ABSTRACT PhD Thesis DETERMINATION OF THE NATURAL RADIOACTIVITY IN ULUOVA ZONE OF KEBAN DAM LAKE Fatih KÜLAHÇI Fırat University Graduate School of Science and Technology Department of Physics 2005, Page: 124 Uluova Zone of Keban Dam Lake has approximately 250 km2 area and different geological and geographical properties. Total alpha and total beta radioactivity, Fe, Mg, Ca, K, Na, Zn, Cu, Cr, Co, Ni, Mn metals were determined in water and deep sediment samples which are collected from different 59 stations as reflecting the properties of the zone completely, and also the environmental gamma dose was determined. The relationship between the total alpha- beta radioactivity and heavy metals, macro elements were studied The total hardness, electrical conductivity and pH were also determined in the same samples and the relationship between those parameters and the natural radioactivity were statistically evaluated. Based on the total radioactivity data; iso-radioactivity maps of the zone were drawn. The results were also evaluated by considering the geological, geographical, climatic properties and seasonal variations.
