Abstract (EN)

EVALUATION OF EYE DISEASES IN CATS AND DOGS The increase in the number of pets kept in the world has caused veterinarians to encounter eye diseases in cats and dogs more frequently. Eye diseases, which are common in cats and dogs, can generally occur due to infectious agents and trauma. This planned study aimed to evaluate eye diseases observed in cats and dogs. The material of the study consisted of 107 cats of different ages, breeds and genders and 92 dogs of different ages, races and genders with eye diseases brought to Fırat University Veterinary Faculty Animal Hospital Surgery Clinic and the clinics of private veterinarians in Gaziantep. The race, age and gender of the sick animals and their anamnesis information, when the complaints started, the way the disease occurred and the time of occurrence were determined and recorded. Photographs of abnormal formations detected in the cases whose eye examinations were performed were taken. Appropriate treatment methods were applied to sick animals and their follow-up continued until recovery was achieved. Findings show that although the most common cases are conjunctivitis, other eye diseases include blepharitis, entropion, thelazia, trichiasis, symblepharon, harder gland prolapse, keratitis, corneal ulcer, keratoconjunctivitis sicca, dermoid cyst, strabismus and foreign body. The findings obtained from the study showed that it is possible to have positive results in the treatment of the eye organ, which is very open and sensitive to external factors, with the treatment applied as a result of a good anamnesis, detailed examination and correct diagnosis.
