Investigation of the prevalence of viral agents causing eye infections in cats

This study was conducted with Feline Herpesvirus-1 (FHV-1), Feline Calicivirus (FCoV), Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP), Feline Corona Virus (FCoV), Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV), Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), which cause eye infection in cats in Burdur province. This study was carried out to determine the presence of the causative agent in the infection by molecular (Polymerase Chain Reaction: PCR) and to obtain information about its prevalence in this region. In the study, blood serum samples, ora-farengial and ocular swap samples were taken from a total of 100 cats of different breeds and genders, older than 2 years. The clinical findings and environmental conditions observed in the sampled animals showing clinical signs were investigated in detail. In this study, 59% (59/100) of cats were exposed to at least one pathogen from 5 viruses, and the virological prevalence rates of FCoV, FHV-1, FeLV, FCV, and FIV were 28%, 11%, 10%, 7%, and 3%, respectively. As a result, it was determined that the relationship between age (0-6 months) and the frequency of contracting FCoV was statistically significant (p=.032792). As a result, it was concluded that FCoV infection, which is one of the isolated viral agents that cause eye infection in cats, is more common in other agents
