Evaluation of Denver II Developmental Screening Test, TIFALDI Test findings and parents attitude in preschool children with stuttering

In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the Denver II developmental screening test of preschool children with stuttering, the performance of TIFALDI test and attitude of parents during rasing their children. In this study 20 children aged 4;00-4;11 with stuttering, 20 children aged 5;00-5;11 with stuttering and 20 non–stuttering children aged 4;00-5;11 were included. Denver II developmental screening test, TIFALDI and PAS were applied to all participants. In the Denver II developmental screening test results: %30 of the stuttering children aged between 4;00-4;11 were normal, %40 were suspicious, %30 were abnormal, %50 of the stuttering children aged between 5;00-5;11 were normal, %30 were suspicious and %10 were abnormal. In the TIFALDI test, stuttering children in both age groups were found to have less receptive and expressive language test scores than their peers (p<0.05). No difference was found between two age groups in the Denver II developmental screening test (p=0.43), the TIFALDI receptive language (p=0.774) and the expressive language (p=0.638) standard scores. While there was difference in the democrat (p=0.012), authoritarian (p=0.05) and protective (p=0.015) attitude lower dimension, there was not difference in the permissive attitude lower-dimension (p=0.112) according to results of the PAS of the parents of stuttering children and non-stuttering children. As parents of stuttering children's PAS protective attitudes lower-dimension scores increased, the children's TIFALDI receptive language raw score and expressive language standard score decreased (p<0.05). As a results it was found that stuttering children showed differences according to Denver II developmental screening test and TIFALDI test results but these differences were not significant between the two age groups. It was found that stuttering children's parents had differences in PAS results and these results were significantly correlated with the receptive and expressive vocabulary performance of children.
