According to Kemal H. Karpat problems of modernization and democracy in Turkey

There are different aproaches on process of modernization and we can say; modernization's political direction includes democracy.Turkey, especially at the the beginning of the 19th century has been witnessed of modernization efforts. We consider; there is usually the tradition of central government in the process of modernization and democracy in the Turkey. Especially the concept of secularism, elitist attitudes of bureaucracy and management interventions of military have been important problems in the process.In the Turkey, process of modernization and democracy and problems of this process have been investigated according to works of Kemal H. Karpat. According to Karpat, one of the most important actors can be called "middle class" community in the Turkey's process of modernization and democracy.
