Abstract (EN)

In the Ulucak town cemetery in ulucak town of Kemalpaşa which is county of İzmir province, as a result of our research, we have seen that there are 256 tombstones which bear historical features and cultural characteristics of the period they were built. 113 of these tombstones belong to men and 109 belong to women. The identity and their live history of the remaining 34 tombstones could not be determined by us because the inscriptions were not written and broken. We have documented that earliest date of the studied tombstones is in H. 1128 / M.1715-1716, latest date of the studied tombstones is in 1927. As a result of our examinations, we have decided that the tombstones should be examined under formal headings, under five headings with different shapes and features. We also found that plant shapes, architectural depictions, geometric patterns and writing were used in the ornaments of these stones. Only, kufeki stone were used as the material in two pieces of tombstones, marble was used in the rest. Three types of fonts, thuluth, ta'lik and rika, were used on the tombstones. In the Male tombstones, mostly turban, kavuk, fez were used for heading. However, in female tombstones, pediments were used with herbal motif, mosque depiction, shoulder and belt form instead of the heading. Key words: Kemalpasa, Ulucak, Tombstones, Cemetery, Sahide (tombstone)
